Kansa and I started the week out with $30.00 for our food budget. I know, I hear it all the time, “why don’t you just file for public assistance?” Sure we qualify, but does that make it right. Public Assistance is one of the reasons that America has gotten so deep into debt. I made a promise to myself, many years ago, that I would do all that is in my power to prove that America doesn’t need public assistance.
Beyond not needing the Welfare System, most Americans have the means to not only eat with out spending a lot of money, but also to eat well. As this week ended, Kansa and I found that once again our shelves were empty. We had one day left be for we could go shopping and all that we had left was a tomato, some garlic, some cheese, 5 eggs and half of an onion. We had to eat dinner and needed some food left over to take to work come morning. What to do? My answer was go yuppie and make a keesh. You will be able to find the recipe in my new cook book once it is published. My point is that my wife and I live on a shoe string and yet we eat like kings, you can to you just have to know how. Furthermore, Kansa and I have worked our way off of Welfare and don’t need even food-stamps. Much of America’s problem has to do with the average person failing to learn to survive outside of mother government’s whom.
This coming week Kansa and I only have $64.00 for gas for the car and food. Next week we must come up with $60.00 for the remaining car payment and $300.00 for rent. Not a problem. We should be getting paid $800.00 next week. But for this week our primary concern is getting enough food to get through the week. After ills are paid, only then can Kansa and I eat. Otherwise our word is worth nothing. About a month ago Kansa and I were not working for a two week stent. We are still behind so to catch up next weeks paycheck is going into yet bills, we will find food along the way.
I just got back form shopping and got a wonderful deal on corned beef, thanks to the fact the Americans only seem to eat corned beef on Saint Pattie’s day. Patrick’s feast day has come and gone so they must have overstocked. As a result, Kansa and I have food enough for two weeks. So now I guess I should give you my twist on a Saint Patrick’s Day favorite.
Corned Beef and Cabbage
Please Note: If you by the brisket precorned, it is much too salty to eat. I recommend a clean water boil to draw out the salt and replace the water to repeat the process at least four times. Now it is beady for what ever cooking method you might want to use. I personally prefer smoking the meat on the grill until the meat is falling apart.
3Lbs. Corned Beef
10 whole cloves
1/4 cup sweet honey mustard
1 package of Taco Seasoning
Directions: After the final rinse, place the ingredients in a crock pot and fill the pot with water until you cover the meat. Set the temp to 100° F and simmer over night. Then drain the water and place it on a cold smoke for about 3 hours. The beef should be falling apart by the time you are done.
Boil the cabbage in water, oil, butter and salt until the leaves are soft.
I would like to point out that although I may hay went over our food budget of $30.00 it was only by $9.00, yet we have replenished our food storage and will be living off of it for the week after this to catch up on some bills. A large part of Anthropology is learning by immersion. I feel that most people would not be able to live this way due to fear of the poverty that they are living in. However, Mankind survived long before we created cities or money. I find it sad that our urban life style has forced humans to forget how to survive much less live.
The sad irony is that humans came together in groups to help one another to survive. Yet with the invention of money the social dynamic that brought men together has not only pushed mankind apart and those who would be more fit to survive in the wild are now force to the bottom of the food-chain, thank to the social dynamic of money. I guess survival of the fittest works in cities as well. After all cities were first created because groups of people did certain common skill-sets that complimented the group. The group allowed the individual to specialize in that skill to the point that he needs the city more than the city needs him.
the sad reality is that in today’s ever changing economy any one can become destitute and if you lost your natural ability to adapt, you well become rejected by society. Charity has nothing to do with government, the Welfare System is a tax to keep the rejected members of our culture of the grid so the Government can keep track of them. For man by nature is a political animal and their is no animal more dangerous than one who has been rejected by his pack. True charity come from the heart and can not be force on you by another. If our society gave freely those who were once outcasts may not be drawn to the and other addictions that helped them loose their jobs and become the social rejects that they are. The Welfare System is a trap that is destroying America. Please join me in helping others to see that they don’t need Government Assistance. Let us heal America by teaching others to find their independence.
