In most kitchens, there is a tool that could save families a lot of money. If you own a food processor, you probably have a flat circular disk that has one blade on two sides. This piece works to slice your food into evenly portioned slices. This slicer can be used for ham, cheese, lettuce or even tomatoes and so much more. I promised a friend that I would help her stretch her food budget, well I feel that a menu is not nearly as important the techniques that can be uses to portion out the food once you have bought it.
After two weeks my friend told me that she had saved about $30.00 after our last conversation and all I did was tell her to buy a large roast and portion out steaks from the roast and freeze it until she needed it. Using the slicer is just another method of stretching out the food dollar.
You can use the slicer to cut your own cold cuts. But the meat must be fully cooked and cooled before it can be sliced, otherwise the slicer gets gummed up and the meat gets destroyed. The uses of tricks like this puts value back into the dollar that is being devalued by our increasing the minimum wage and messing with the supply and demand of the local region.
This blog is meant to be a tool to exchange ideas to help people save money when times are hard. Please tell others about it and come t with you own ideas.
One thing that you do with the shredder disk other than great cheese is make has browns. I make a pizza style dish, by replacing the crust with a large hash brown that I precook in the oven for about 20 minutes at 425°F. Then I put the sauce over the Hash-brown and make the rest just like a pizza. Pizza dough is an expense that I will not have, so I make it myself of do something else. Planing out your meals around what you already have is how you stay with in your for budget. One more thing, never give in to your child’s demands for that special cereal with a cartoon on the front. They are not buying the food, kids don’t have rights until they start contributing.
