Modern slavery has always been treated as someone else’s problem, but the truth is although the victims get into it willingly, they may never fully understand the situation. The Authorities say that most victims of Trafficking don’t even know they are being trafficked. A perfect example of the individual being tricked into slavery is found in modern industry. Many Americans use staffing services to find their next job. But the staffing services have a standard noncompete clause in the contract. This clause says that you are not allowed to go to work for any of the staffing services clients that they have sent you on an assignment with unless they buy out your contract or three months has lapsed after you terminate affiliations with the staffing service.
Much like the debt bondage that the video talks about in the link, this from of modern slavery feeds off of the victims fear that he or she is not able to get a job on their own. But what makes it even worse is the fact that the staffing services have the law on their side and the longer an individual works with the service the less likely is it that the victim will find a job out side of the service because every time the service sends the victim out on a job to a another assignment that company falls under the staffing services protection of the non-compete clause. So now the victim fells trapped and is afraid to leave the service. Once again the greatest weapons Human Traffickers have against the victim is fear and ignorance. Don’t get trapped!
We all must fight for our meals when we are out hear in the field, but no one should be taken advantage of due to their own ignorance. It may have been our own mistakes that lead us to where we are in our lives, and not even the Bible condones slavery, it does however give instructions for the fear treatment of slaves, it maybe time that we all consider why this fact is true. Most of the time the slave wants a better life, but instead of working for it the easier path is chosen and the consequences are the position we find ourselves in. Drugs and other addictions as well as acquired debt or even the desire for a freedom the person does not thing he or she has are the roots of a person’s slavery.
