On November 16th 2005 I was working with an old Eagle Scout helping with the clean up after Hurricane Katerina. The young Accountant who was volunteering with the Red Cross did not look like the kind of guy who would even know how to tie a knot, much less last a raft together out of debris. Nevertheless, my companion had the need arise, when a wall of sandbags gave way and he had to stay out of the rushing water.
I was standing on the roof of a near by house and was able to throw a rope to him but it we to short to pull him in. My companion than used the rope to lash together some boards, which gave him enough ballaced to swim across to safety.
