Haven’t you noticed that for the most part communities just try to cover up the homeless population, rather than attempting to solve the problems that lead to the homeless populations growth? Why do people reffer to the Homeless as the problem, when it truth it is our community that has the problem?
We see a kid on the street and our hearts bleed. But a few years pass and we say to ourselves, “that person has been homeless for years”. The implication being he or she must have had several opportunities to get off of the streets. Yes, that person had plenty of opportunities.
Everyone who saw that child holding his or her cardboard sign was a potential gateway to that child’s salvation.
Yet we do nothing! Why is that? Could it be that the gilt from doing nothing makes it hard for us to look the same person in the eye years later? We call them freeloaders but we don’t talk the time to learn their story.
